Things to Do

Wee Jasper Station is conveniently located in the heart of Wee Jasper Valley with easy access to a variety of local activities plus close proximity to Yass, Canberra and Tumut.

From fishing and bush walking to cycling and caving, to gin, wine and beer tasting or even just relaxing by the Goodradigbee River or one of the beautiful local creeks.

Explore the Station

Wee Jasper Station has two kilometres of Goodradigbee River frontage. You are welcome to wander down to the river across the paddocks - but remember - leave the gates as you found them. If they are open, leave them open if they are closed - close them. It's very important.

The river is a great spot to have a picnic, photograph the wildlife and the birds or throw in a line and see if you can catch a trout (please be mindful of trout season and bag limits), yellow belly or a big cod. In the warmer months enjoy a dip in the refreshing, clear mountain waters - all the way from the source - Blue Water Hole in Kosciuszko National Park.

When the backwaters of Burrinjuck Dam are up, a kayak from Wee Jasper Station, past the village into the dam is a great adventure - with maybe a stop off at the Wee Jasper Distillery.

Take a walk along the valley or in the hills and take in the panoramic views, perfect if you are a keen photographer.

Explore trails on your mountain bike or just relax and unwind on a shady verandah at either the Garden Cottage or Shearers' Quarters.

There is plenty of open space for games and activities, or to have a barbecue.

Wee Jasper Station is a working farm, so sadly we can't allow dogs to visit but you can watch the hay being cut and baled, the sheep being mustered or watch the new lambs enjoying the sunshine.

The birdsong in the morning is a delight and at night you will see the nightsky like never before.

Hume & Hovell Walking Track

Right on Wee Jasper Station's doorstep is Fitzpatrick Trackhead, part of the Hume and Hovell Walking Track.

From Fitzpatrick you can hike the track through native forest and along forestry fire trails to the Mount Wee Jasper summit.

From the summit, it’s 4km to the Log Bridge Creek campsite. This walk affords views across to the Brindabella Mountains to the east and crosses multiple small streams and waterfalls. It is a scenic walk that will get the heart going a few times.

Please do not attempt any Hume & Hovell trails without consulting their website. Trails are of varying distance and difficulty and many a walker has come unstuck over the years, thinking they were just going for a stroll...

Perfect for day-trippers, short walks and long-distance hikers, trail runners and ultra-marathon racers, the 426km Hume & Hovell Track stretches across South-Eastern NSW, from Yass to Albury.

Take in the Views

The Wee Jasper valley is one of the most photogenic landscapes in NSW. With majestic mountains, rugged rocky outcrops and the gorgeous Goodradigbee River flowing through its hear. It is a photographer's dream and has inspired the artistic juices of many painters, writers and creators - incuding the great Australian master Leonard Long and the iconic Banjo Paterson - who once lived just across the river from Wee Jasper Station.

Goodradigbee River

The source of the Goodradigbee River is high up in the mountains on Wolgalu Country. Winding its way from Blue Water Hole the Goodradigbee River is a significant river system that flows into Burrinjuck Dam.

It's the perfect spot for a dip in summer, to throw in a line or to while away an afternoon. The water is crystel clear, chilly in winter from the snow melt but refreshing in the hotter months. Sitting beneath the sheoaks on the banks of the river on a summer's day as been a favouriate pastime for Wee Jasper locals for over 150 years.

The Goodradigbee River forms the eastern boundary of Wee Jasper Station and can be accessed from the property.

Micalong Creek

Micalong Creek is at the southern end of the Wee Jasper valley, down Nottingham Road. It is a 15 minute drive from Wee Jasper Station.

The Reserve at Micalong Creek is part of Reflections Wee Jasper but you can easily access

The walking track at the western side of the camping reserve and take an easy 5 min walk to "Micalong Falls" - more of a cascade than falls, it is the best swimming spot in the valley with beautiful scenery.

Beyond the swimming hole is a steeper track for the more fleet of foot looking for spectacular views.

If you walk to the east from the campground you can follow Micalong Creek to the junction of the Goodradigbee River.

Visit Snowy Valleys

Just an hour from Wee Jasper to the west, via multiple routes through Mountain Ash forest and softwood plantations, lies the town of Tumut on the banks of the majestic Tumut River. Roads are 50% unsealed at least, depending on which way you go!

It's the home of Tumut River Brewing Co. - famous for it's Ginja Ninja and other medal-winning brews. There is great coffee, supermarkets and all the services you need.

Tumut is also the homebase of the award-winning Snowy Valleys Fly Fishing, offering year-round guided fly fishing experiences - Trout and Murray Cod - around the region including Blowering Dam and the Snowy Mountains.

25 mins further on you'll come to Batlow - Australia's apple capital. Tumut is also home of the famous Tumut Broom Factory.

Visit Yass Valley

Through Yass is the most common way to Wee Japser, or via Mountain Creek from Canberra.

Yass Valley is home to the popular Murrumbateman Wine District with multimple winemakes, vineyards and cellar doors open to the public.

Yass township has all the services you need and is the perfect place to stock up on fuel and groceries on your way through (Wee Jasper does not have fuel sales or a grocery store).

Yass Valley is bursting with wonderful experiences. With a proud connection to early rural Australia, a modern and well renowned food and wine scene, a thriving arts scene and boutique shopping it's definitely worth exploring.
